Visiting St John Kenya
Visiting St John Kenya
We love the vibrant and diverse community NSW brings as a part of St John Ambulance Australia. And while the organisation spans across the country, our mission and purpose remains the same. We exist to serve all humanity regardless of race, colour, gender or creed, by providing first aid and pre-hospital medical responses to community healthcare needs.
Beyond Australian soil, St John extends even further – we are just one amongst 44 St John organisations globally! What is St John like on the other side of the world? Here are Klong’s reflections from her recent travels.
"During my recent trip to Africa, I had the privilege of stopping by Kenya and visiting St John Ambulance, where I was able to witness firsthand the work that they do. I had the pleasure of touring their headquarters – I saw their first aid training programs, the EOC where they were busily dispatching services around the country, their ambulances, equipment and uniform.
It was truly inspiring meeting the dedicated staff members and volunteers that help operate St John Kenya. They are supported by more than 40,000 volunteers a mix of both cadets and adults across the country with around 300 divisions, operating out of schools, jails, events, on highways and within police stations.
On reflection, I was both humbled and amazed at how the same principles we practice here in Australia by ‘Saving lives through First Aid’ are upheld on the other side of the world. The resilience and passion I witnessed from all those I’ve met, truly reaffirmed the global impact that St John Ambulance upholds.
Thank you to St John Ambulance Kenya, for welcoming me into their home and taking the time to show me around, share stories, ideas and experiences together. I look forward to collaborating with St John colleagues worldwide and hopefully exchange knowledge and skills to serve our communities."
