February 2025
Dear Team,
Welcome to the first edition of The Pulse for 2025, I hope you had some quality time with family over Christmas and I extend my best wishes to you for 2025.
It’s so good to see our teams back after holidays looking so energised, we have certainly hit the ground running which is fantastic.
My thanks to our members who provided expert Medical Services at the 2024 Sydney New Years Eve deployments as part of our major events coverage for Sydney of Sydney. This was followed by a flurry of events across state and divisional areas including The Country Music Festival in Tamworth, the end of carriage works concert series, multiple Australia Day Events and most recently the Tag competition in Coffs Harbour.
It has been a very positive start to the year, and we will need to maintain this momentum to deliver some important initiatives. I am delighted to announce our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been approved by Reconciliation Australia with a launch event to be scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. Nationally, we will celebrate 100 years of empowering young people through the St John Youth Program which for a century has built our future leaders, nurtured life-saving skills, and encouraged community spirit, and I am very excited for these celebrations in September culminating in NSW hosting the National Camp. In November, St John NSW will host the National St John Priory Chapter meetings in Sydney with members from across Australia coming together for the Priory celebrations.
Finally, if that wasn’t enough, this past weekend I was proud and excited to take part alongside our members in our first Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras parade reinforcing our inclusion objectives and strengthening our brand as a place to belong.
Thank you all for your service.
Dom
Celebrating Centenary of Youth
We are thrilled to celebrate 100 years of our St John Youth programs!
Our journey began in 1925 in Glebe, and has since blossomed into a vibrant, nationwide initiative. There are lots of activities happening this year to celebrate this amazing achievement and even commemorative merch.
Emergency Response Teams coming!
Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) will be introduced in 2025. These teams will be made up of skilled, dedicated members who can help in emergencies or disasters.
They will be five members teams who will receive extra training to prepare them for deployment at short notice.
Visiting St John Kenya
"I was able to witness firsthand the work that they do."
What is St John like on the other side of the world? Klong from our Penrith Combined Division shares her reflection and photos from her recent trip.
St John's History in Print
A new St John book is being produced in 2025! The Premier Response takes a deep dive into St John over the last 140 years. Written by St John Archivist and Librarian, Dr Matthew Glozier, this book honours and keeps the history of St John alive.

Meet Linda Xu!
Linda is a specialist in General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. She volunteer with St John as the Divisional Medical Officer at Hornsby Division.
What is a hobby or interest of yours?
I enjoy swimming and in the last year have been working on technique and efficiency. I love putting what I learned in physiology into practice and learning a new stroke- currently the butterfly.
Do you have a new years resolution?
I'm hoping to average 6 or more hours of sleep per night this year. Even better if it's not disturbed by hospital calls or getting woken up by little people.
Would you rather: Eat only one type of food for the rest of your life OR be able to consume everything but only in liquid form?
I could live on freshly baked bread alone! Followed closely by my favourite food group - dessert.
