We believe that every Australian should have access to responsive healthcare and wellbeing support when and where they need it.
Australia has one of the lowest rates of first aid training in the world - fewer than 5% of Australians have the first aid knowledge and skills to save a life in an emergency.
St John Ambulance NSW has long advocated for increasing first aid awareness, skills and products to support safety in the community.
Providing training in vulnerable communities
We provide equitable access to first aid training in vulnerable communities, such as through partnering with Marathon Health to develop our specialised Indigenous First Aid program. The training has empowered the Indigenous community in Western NSW with the confidence and capability to act in emergencies, or to support a community member who may not want to seek professional health care.
Free first aid education resources
As the experts in first aid and emergency response, we are here to give you the knowledge and confidence that could one day save a life.
Our fact sheets are designed to help you deal with a range of common accidents and scenarios. From a choking child, to treating a snake bite - these sheets are free for everyone to download.
We are dedicated to increasing awareness of the importance of defibrillators, and access to these through working with our Government partners and other stakeholders.
Some of the initiatives we have worked on include the Service NSW state-wide defibrillator register and interactive map. This will ensure that defibrillators are more visible, and are easier to locate, for out of hospital cardiac arrest emergencies.
St John Ambulance provides free online training designed to equip learner drivers and bystanders with basic first aid knowledge and the confidence to assist in the case that they are the first on scene at a road accident.
