HRH Princess Anne officially opened the Royal Easter Show on 9 April 2022, visiting the St John Ambulance team as part of her tour of the event. As Commandant-in-Chief (Youth) for St John Ambulance Internationally, Princess Anne was extremely keen to meet with our youth members and spend one-on-one time with our 2021 Cadets of the Year, Jey and Jazmin, and our 2021 Youth Leader of the Year, Clarissa.
Sharing her passion for St John and the work we do, she also met with Child Safety Specialist, Brooke Carrier, our Deputy Commissioner of Youth, Benjamin McClure, and our Duty Commander, David Czerkies. The Princess was very interested in the work St John was doing to support the community, passionately speaking to our Peer Support Lead, Margaret Vincent, and some of the patients during her visit to our treatment room.
Globally, the Royal Family have a close relationship with St John Ambulance and are strongly invested in the work that we do as an organisation. In 1888, Queen Victoria granted the Order of St John a Royal Charter, and the Reigning Monarch has been the Sovereign Head of the Order ever since.
As Commandant-in-Chief (Youth) for St John Ambulance Internationally, Princess Anne is a passionate and committed global ambassador for our youth volunteers and leaders.

“I found Princess Anne to be very warm, approachable and genuinely interested in what St John's role was at the Easter Show. HRH was very keen to hear more about the show and asked questions and discussed our capability for providing support and what that meant to the people attending. When presented to the youth members, she spent some one-on-one time talking to them and asking questions. When Princess Anne was told it was time to leave, she said she wanted to stay longer and went on to meet with Margaret Vincent and talked to the patients in the medical centre. This will definitely be one of the highlights in my life.” - Duty Commander - David Czerkies
