FAQs

What is a Mental Health First Aider?

Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders) are individuals who have completed a Mental Health First Aid course, gaining the skills and confidence to recognise, understand, and respond to someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.

They play a key role in workplaces, communities, schools, and universities, reducing stigma and promoting access to support.

Can a Mental Health First Aider diagnose mental illnesses?

No. MHFAiders are not therapists or counsellors, nor can they diagnose mental illnesses.

They are trained to provide initial support to someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis, and to promote pathways to professional help or other support.

Will I be certified after completing this course?

Yes, once you complete the two-day training and pass the online assessment, you will receive a Certification of Accreditation from Mental Health First Aid Australia, valid for three years.

Please note this is not a nationally recognised qualification, but a specialised course designed and certified by Mental Health First Aid Australia.

If you are wanting to do a Nationally Recognised mental health training, we recommend our Mental Health & Crisis Support course.

What happens if I can’t attend both days?

It is important to attend both full days of training to complete the course. If you miss a session, you may need to reschedule for a future course.

Do I need prior experience or qualifications in mental health to attend?

No, the course is designed for everyone, regardless of previous experience with mental health topics.
