About this course

Course Outline

This course covers the following:

  • DRSABCD action plan and responding to emergency situations
  • Managing unconscious breathing casualties
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Using a defibrillator (AED)
  • Legal issues in first aid
  • Infection control

Duration

2 hours plus mandatory pre-work.

Prerequisites

Pre-work is required.

If online mandatory pre-work is not completed prior to the course date, students will not be permitted to enter the class and will not receive certification.

This course does not require any other certification or training to have been completed previously and is suitable for new students.

Certification

On successful completion of this course, you will be issued a statement of attainment in:

    - HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
St John recommends, as per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice and the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that first aid skills are renewed every 3 years and resuscitation skills (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) are renewed every 12 months.

Assessment Methods

We use a range of different methods to assess you, including written assessments and practical activities.
 
You must be able to perform CPR on the floor for 2 minutes on a manikin. You may need to pair up with another student to complete the practical exercises.

This course is suitable for most office and retail workers or those who are wanting comprehensive standard CPR training.

Do I need to renew my CPR every year?

Yes, St John recommends, as per the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, that resuscitation skills (HLTAID009) are renewed every 12 months.
