Dear Team,
The last month has been an exceptionally busy period for St John NSW with our teams providing event medical services to our largest event of the year, the Sydney Royal Easter Show, the Hawkesbury Show, ANZAC Day services, the Runway running event at the new airport and many other community events across the state. True to form, our volunteers showed up in force providing excellent patient care.
On 25 April, St John members attended ANZAC Day commemorations across NSW to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country in times of conflict. 746 members from 42 divisions attended more than 100 dawn services, honouring a tradition that runs deep within our organisation and serving over 2238 hours in keeping these events safe. The connection between St John and the ANZAC spirit is a longstanding one, with members serving in both World Wars and in every conflict since, a legacy we carry with great pride.
It was also wonderful to see our volunteers partnering with Girls on Fire Australia and fellow emergency services agencies to deliver the Life Ready Fire & Resilience Program at Freshwater Senior Campus. This exercise was a fantastic example of what can be achieved through multi-agency collaboration and community education, furthering our credentials as the medical reserve.
We celebrated National Volunteer Week, a time to reflect on the remarkable contributions our volunteers make every day. In 2025, St John NSW members served over 290,000 hours, provided much needed medical coverage at more than 3,000 community events, and treated close to 10,000 patients. Those numbers are extraordinary, but they only tell part of the story. We are grateful to all the families who sacrifice time with their respective St John member to allow them to serve. Thank you for your service.
Lastly, I want to warmly invite members and their families to attend the St John’s Day Inter-Faith Celebration at our Macquarie Park State Operations Centre on Sunday, 28 June 2026 at 11.00am. Join us as we celebrate the feast day of our patron saint through an inclusive, multicultural service led by State Chaplain Fr Andrew Doohan, followed by family fun, food and community. We look forward to bringing members together for this special occasion. Please RSVP by 17 June HERE.
