The Pulse – July – August 2025

Dear Team,

Thank you all for the incredible energy, dedication, and teamwork shown across our organisation this past month. July was filled with exciting milestones and opportunities to connect with each other and our communities. From the continued growth of our youth program to our evolving brand rollout and strong sustainability impact, it’s clear that St John NSW is moving forward with purpose and momentum.

I had the pleasure of joining the NSW RFS on 4 July in celebrating Commissioner Rob Rogers’ retirement honouring his many decades of service. I jumped into the BERT course where I witnessed firsthand the rigour and professionalism of the training and the passion for this significant strength of our response capability. I failed the course, but had a lot of fun with the team and will be back to conquer the M!

We also took the opportunity to celebrate and recognise our amazing staff with a mid-year BBQ at our Macquarie Park SOC. This was followed by the chance to speak live on ABC Radio Newcastle to highlight the life saving importance of first aid and CPR, and the impact our members have across NSW.

A new brand rollout will soon be underway with a National objective to align who we are as a truly National brand to further enhance our national recognition and turn the narrative from “always here” to “we need you here” because St John is here to help. Our Engagement and Marketing Teams have worked tirelessly with the Australian National Office on this next step in our journey. Congratulations to the team! It’s wonderful to see such positive momentum.

These moments of connection, whether formal or fun, remind me how much we achieve when we stand united in purpose. As we move through the busy month of August with City2Surf and TCS Sydney Marathon, I want to reiterate my inspiration and gratitude to all our staff and volunteers who genuinely dedicate themselves in service of humanity.

We are the Medical Reserve. Ready To Respond.

Meet Francisco Lopez

Francisco is part of the Finance Team at St John, working as our Accounts Receivable Officer. He ensures we receive outstanding money from training, restock and events. (Photo is at the Matterhorn, Switzerland – the mountain you see on Toblerone packets!)

What is your favourite weekend activity?
Mainly spending time with family and friends and going out on weekend adventures to the beach or watching a movie at the cinemas.
What is a fun fact people often don’t know about you?
I really enjoy music would often sing at work at home car anywhere. Maybe a little more quietly when I’m at work…
Would you rather: live in a treehouse OR a houseboat?
I think I prefer houseboat – I really love the ocean and water in general. It’s so calm and I can spend all day at the beach.
