NAIDOC Week – CEO Message

Dear team,

NAIDOC week celebrates 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. NAIDOC provides a catalyst for us all to take the opportunity to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is a gentle reminder to take a moment to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

This year’s themes is the Next Generation – Strength, Vision and Legacy.

It is a theme that resonates with St John in our celebration of the Centenary of Cadets. This NAIDOC week’s them recognises the strength of First Nations young people to lead in self determination following the vision of the community and the legacy of ancestors. St John’s impact is very similar. Our future relies on the leadership provided by the young people in our youth program, based on the needs of the communities we serve recognising the legacy of those who served before us.

Please take the opportunity to engage in NAIDOC week celebrations in your communities. Our First Nations peoples have so much lived history and connection to this wonderful country that we can learn from. Enjoy NAIDOC week and celebrate the oldest continuing living culture on earth.

St John Ambulance NSW acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the many lands on which we work and serve the community. We pay our respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge their ongoing connection to country, and long history of teaching, healing and gathering.

Have a great week.

Dom
