St John NSW rolls up sleeves for Emergency Services Blood Drive

Every donation saves lives. This winter, St John Ambulance NSW members are doing something a little different to answer the call.

On Tuesday 5th May, St John CEO, Domenic Teakle, and volunteers signed up to donate blood for the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Emergency Services Blood Drive, rolling up their sleeves at the Sydney Donor Centre alongside emergency services colleagues from across the state.

St John Ambulance NSW has proudly supported the blood drive for many years and last year emergency services personnel across Australia made 14,140 donations during the challenge, with NSW responsible for over 3,000 donations. This year our goal is to donate even more.

The Lifeblood campaign runs until August, a critical window when blood supplies are under the most pressure, due to the increase in the number of cold and flu cases during the winter months. Seasonal illnesses mean that fewer people can donate, while the need for blood remains the same.

Each blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives, and we are proud to play our part in supporting this important and impactful cause.

St John Ambulance encourages it members and our wider community to get involved and donate if you can, to help beat last year’s tally.

How to donate:

Booking a donation is simple. Visit your nearest Red Cross Lifeblood Donor Centre, call 13 14 95, or online at www.lifeblood.com.au
