On successful completion of this course, you will be issued a statement of attainment in:

HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

The SafeWork Australia model Code of Practice: First Aid in the Workplace and the Australian Resuscitation Council recommend that First Aid skills are renewed every three years, and resuscitation skills (HLTAID009/HLTAID0015) are renewed every 12 months. Please also refer to specific industry standards and guidelines.

This course is suitable for experienced First Aiders who use specific equipment and often work in high risk environments.

Course Outline

This course covers the following:

DRSABCD action plan
Infection control
Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
Soft bag resuscitation
Administration of oxygen
Oxygen delivery systems
Oxygen therapy and resuscitation
Oropharyngeal airway
Bag valve mask (BVM)
Legal and other requirements
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Anatomy and physiology
Assessment of vital signs
Levels of consciousness
Suction equipment
Maintenance of resuscitation equipment
Advanced bleeding

Duration

1 day plus mandatory pre-work.

Pre-Requisites

Pre-work is required. If online mandatory pre-work is not completed prior to the course date, students will not be permitted to enter the class and will not receive certification. You must hold a current statement of attainment in HLTAID011 Provide First Aid to participate in this course.

Assessment Methods

We use a range of different methods to assess you, including written assessments and practical activities. You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor. You may need to pair up with another student to complete the practical exercises.
