New Year, New Me...But Actually?
New Year, New Me...But Actually?
"New Year, New Me!”
We have all said it, but do we actually stop and think about how we can make ourselves new?
Aside from diets, excessive workout regimes and less time on our phones, how can we truly craft a New Year’s resolution that will help us be the best versions of ourselves? How can we make 2023 our year?
If 2022 taught us anything, it is just how important helping others is. In a time of strife and uncertainty, Australians banded together to help those near and far in a time when they needed it the most.
Here are four New Year's resolutions to help you (and others!) make 2023 a year to truly make a difference.
1. Become a St John Ambulance Volunteer
From basic first aid to advanced medical support, our volunteers have made a difference right across NSW. Volunteering at events, training or getting involved in other St John initiatives provides the ability for you to not just talk the talk in 2021, but to walk the walk.

2. Do a First Aid Course
You never know when you may find yourself in an emergency situation, and often, it could be the difference between life or death. Being able to understand how to respond in emergency situations, and being equipped with how to deal with challenging circumstances is undoubtedly going to change your life, and has the potential to change the lives of others too.

3. Invest in a First Aid Kit
Store it in your car. Keep one in your home. Ensure there are plenty around your workplace. A first aid kit can provide support if you find yourself, or someone else, in an emergency situation.

4. Educate yourself about Mental Health
Now, more than ever before, the conversation surrounding mental health awareness rings through the ears of everyone. Beyond Blue reported a 30 per cent increase in calls since the beginning of the pandemic, with researchers estimating a significant increase in the number of individuals experiencing mental illness as the pandemic has caused an indisputable sense of fear and anxiety. Be the light to those around you during this time.

2023 may be unpredictable, but helping each other through it can make all the difference. At St John Ambulance, we are here for you and encourage you to be there for others.
Happy New Year!
