VOTE NOW! Help James Unwin to be your Westfield Local Hero!

We are incredibly proud to share that St John’s very own James Unwin is a finalist in the 2026 Westfield Eastgardens Local Heros program. It is a wonderful recognition of everything James has given to St John NSW and to his community.

The Westfield Local Heroes program will award $30,000 to the local winner allowing them to create an even greater impact in their community.

A decade of dedication

Since joining St John Ambulance NSW in 2016, James has consistently shown up for others. As an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and 2IC of the  Paddington Combined Division, he has contributed thousands of volunteer hours, caring for hundreds of patients and helping safeguard large-scale events across Sydney.

James is a member of the specialised Emergency Response Team and a Major Incident Team Leader and Commander, repeatedly demonstrating the knowledge, calm demeanour, and dedication that make St John volunteers such an important part of the  community.

Within his division, as 2IC he has played a key role in strengthening Paddington Combined Division’s training program, developing and delivering modules that sharpen the medical knowledge and practical skills of our volunteers.

What winning means

If James is announced the winner, he will dedicate the grant towards new medical training equipment and training delivery, with a focus on responding to and treating major bleeds and traumatic injuries. He intends for this training to enhance the skills and knowledge of both St John volunteers and members of the public, allowing as many people as possible to learn lifesaving first aid skills.

A win for James would be a win for every future patient that will be helped and every community member who will learn a skill that could one day save a life.
