In their unmistakable green uniform, our event health service teams are the most recognised face of St John Ambulance NSW. They help support events from local football matches in regional NSW to major state events, providing on-the-ground, immediate care to those in need.

Harm minimisation and first aid

- Able to deploy teams of responders and healthcare professionals
- Can provide immediate and ongoing treatment to patrons as well as early intervention for identified vulnerable or at-risk patrons

Our teams
As a leading training organisation, we take pride in ensuring our responders are prepared for anything and receive the best possible training. Have peace of mind knowing that, unlike other providers, St John Ambulance NSW upholds the highest standards for all event health services personnel.
Event responders
- The largest, most qualified and skilled teams include first responders (Certificate II in Emergency Medical Service First Response or equivalent) and advanced responders (Certificate III in Basic Health Care or equivalent).
Healthcare professionals
- Our accredited, registered and skilled healthcare professionals include Enrolled Nurses, Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Extended Care and Intensive Care Paramedics, Doctors and Specialists from a range of specialities including critical care. They’re supported by an extensive framework of clinical governance and training.
Bicycle Emergency Response Team (BERT)
- Rapid response crews roam events where vehicle access is limited due to significant crowding, or to cover a large area. BERT deploys with two accredited responders or healthcare professionals - fully equipped with first aid kits, oxygen and a defibrillator.
Mass casualty and incident management
- A vital component of any event, our specialised and experienced command and communications staff integrate within your event’s command and control structure. Our Commanders are provided extra training and hold a Certificate IV in Frontline Management. Additionally, St John Ambulance NSW has its own internal radio network with state-wide coverage, meaning you can connect with more of our teams at your event site, without any extra cost.
Our resources
St John Ambulance NSW provides coverage to emergencies across the state in addition to Event Health Services. Infrastructure is in place to support these services, which spans the entire state of NSW. Covering the largest and most diverse range of local and international major events, St John Ambulance NSW offers unmatched capability.
Medical equipment

St John Ambulance NSW can supply medical equipment to manage basic life-threatening conditions through to advanced monitoring devices. This is based on a risk assessment and the scope of practice of the team assigned to your event. The equipment used by our responders can dramatically increase the patient outcomes following a serious medical incident.
- St John Ambulance NSW will always have the following equipment at your event:

- First aid response kit
- Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator (SAED)
- Oxygen resuscitation equipment
- Emergency pharmaceuticals (EpiPen, Ventolin, pain management)
- Cervical collars for spinal immobilisation
- Splints for supporting limb fractures
- Additional equipment, such as advanced cardiac monitoring, advanced airway management and pharmacology, can be provided for our Paramedic level of coverage.
Our fleet
- St John Ambulance NSW has the largest non-emergency fleet in NSW. Whether you need coverage at a small community fete or festival, a mountain biking event over rough terrain or a city-wide major event, our fleet of vehicles has been specifically developed to service events of any size and type. The scale of our fleet enables us to deliver more events simultaneously and significantly larger events than other event medical service providers.

Our members train, practice and work together at events and venues so no matter which part of the state they come from, they all work to the same high standards, under the same clinical governance framework.
Training and teamwork

- We deliver consistently to the highest clinical standards because we require our people to maintain current training and accreditation. We even provide training in mental health, drug and alcohol intoxication, vulnerable people and mass casualty and incident management training. Most importantly, we don’t contract responders for your event. You will always get a consistent, trained, fully integrated, St John Ambulance NSW team.
Drugs, poisons and controlled substances

- We're approved by the NSW Ministry of Health to purchase, hold and supply Schedule 4 and 8 drugs. Our responders practise within an authorised clinical scope and our Registered Nurses, Paramedics and Doctors are authorised to use the range of medications within their qualifications and experience.

- All St John NSW personnel operate under St John Australia’s National Clinical Practice Guidelines which ensures that each patient receives the highest level of care to achieve the best possible medical outcome. Our National Clinical Practice Guidelines are regularly audited and updated to ensure best practice and that we remain Australia’s leader in the field of pre-hospital care.
- A Clinical Advice Line is available 24/7 to our members with the aim of helping with complex, unusual or difficult decisions around clinical care. Staffed by St John Ambulance NSW volunteer healthcare professionals, including Registered Nurses, Paramedics and Doctors, the advice line helps members plan for a patient’s care and support specialist clinical decision making in the field.
